Borychiv Tik is one of the oldest streets in Kyiv which connects Borychiv Decent and Florivska Street. According to one version, the name of the Street comes from the name of the area, Borych; according to another, in the Middle Ages, there was a government post of borych (contemporary customs officer), and there was a customs office in that area. “Tik” could mean a place of trade, an accumulation of bodies of water flowing out from under a river, or a threshing floor. From the times of Kyivan Rus to the 18th century, the Street was inhabited by craftsmen. It acquired its modern look following the fire of 1811. Some manors of that time have survived until now.
