The monument to Yaroslav the Wise was made based on the sketch of the famous Ukrainian sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze and installed in the park next to his museum which is at the same time a workshop. Yaroslav the Wise was a Grand Prince who reigned in the first half of the 11th century, and during his reign Kyivan Rus turned into a powerful European state.
Yaroslav expanded the borders of Kyivan Rus and actively engaged in construction. He built Golden Gate and the Saint Sophia Cathedral. The prince was married twice. His first wife, Anna, along with his sisters, was taken prisoner forever by the Polish king Boleslaw. For the second time, Yaroslav married Ingigerd, the daughter of the Swedish king Olof Skötkonung. The prince facilitated the marriage of all his children with Ingigerd, five sons and four daughters, to the royal dynasties of the Old World.
