About the place

The modern museum created in 1998 is the successor of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among the guests present at the opening of its first exhibition, was even Olena Ott-Skoropadska, the daughter of Ukraine’s Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi. It is the only museum of its kind in Ukraine that covers the history of the creation and development of the art of war in the territory of Ukraine from the Bronze Age to the present day. The Museum’s permanent exhibition is divided into the following parts:

The art of war in ancient times in the territory of Ukraine representing artefacts of Celtic, Scythian, and Sarmatian tribes;
The army of Kyivan Rus: Prince statehood (11th–13th centuries) is dedicated to the development of military equipment in the medieval period;
Zaporizhzhia Sich and the Cossack State (Hetmanship) (16th– 18th centuries);
Ukrainians in the World War I (1914–1918);
National military formations of the time of the Ukrainian Revolution (1917–1921);
Ukrainians in the Armed Forces of the USSR in 1920–1940;
Ukrainians in the armies of states participating in the World War II (1939–1945). Ukrainian liberation movement;
participation of Ukrainians in military conflicts of the second half of the 20th century that includes models of new, powerful military equipment, the history of war in Afghanistan;
Ukrainian army in countering Russia’s aggression: Crimea annexation, ATO/JFO since 2014.

Another 5 branches operate as parts of the Museum in different oblasts of Ukraine.
