The winged horse settled in Maria Pryimachenko’s fairy-tale world in 1982. It lives in a blue sky meadow where yellow flowers grow and leopard birds fly. Apparently, this is how the artist dreamed, because many of her characters used to come to her from the realm of dreams.
Maria Pryimachenko’s first galleries were the walls of houses in the village in Kyiv region where she lived, and soon, her fantastic beasts conquered Paris, London, Montreal and Prague. With the help of ordinary gouache paints and Whatman paper, the artist created hundreds of unique canvases-microcosms with their strange inhabitants, which became recognisable all over the world, and the Japanese even illustrate their ABC-books with them.
