The building, erected in 1899 based on the design of architect Volodymyr Nikolaiev, was situated in the territory of the Lukianivske Jewish Cemetery and was its administrative centre. The cemetery is almost destroyed, but the office survived. In 1943, the German occupiers set up barracks there to burn the corpses of exterminated Kyivites (primarily Jews and Roma). In 1962, the building was used as a dormitory for the Sokil hockey team. Since 2015, the office is part of the Babyn Yar National Historical and Memorial Reserve. A few years later, the restoration of the building began. According to the design project, the Memorial Museum in memory of the victims of the tragedy should be opened there.
