Zolotovoritsky Lane, Kyiv
A bronze monument to the 11th-century Kyiv prince was erected in Zolotovoritskyi Square in 1997. The model of the monument was created by the famous sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze back in 1949, but it was made only half a century after the author’s death. The monument is 4.7 m high and depicts Yaroslav the Wise sitting on a granite pedestal with a miniature of Sophia of Kyiv built by him in his hand. Presumably, this is how he was depicted on the fresco in the cathedral.
The monument is made in a combination of elements of sculptural plastic, popular at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and Byzantinism. On the back of the monument you can find prints of 3 palms. Those belong to the authors, Mykola Bilyk, Oleksiy Redko and Vitalii Sivko who thus imprinted their contribution on this sculpture.
