About the place

The largest museum in Ukraine, Pyrohiv, reproduces Ukrainian folk life in a historical context down to the smallest details, ranging from Polissia to Podillia, from vespers to traditional Christmas, from vyshyvanka to vytynanka. This is a skansen, an open-air museum, a museum village, a spacious architectural and landscape complex where one can easily get lost for several days.

Pyrohiv exhibits all historical and ethnographic regions of Ukraine in realistic conditions. More than 300 monuments of traditional Ukrainian architecture of the past five centuries are presented here: houses, wells, storehouses, etc. About 100,000 household items, such as clothes, furniture, fabrics, work tools, and so on, are stored in the museum’s funds. Besides, Pyrohiv” is situated in the historical area on the southern outskirts of Kyiv, which was the land of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra since ancient times.

The holding of seasonal ethnographic fairs, traditional folk festivals, the Creative Workshop (where one can learn to make various items of folk art), souvenir shops, and catering facilities are at the service of visitors.
