For the first time, the Memorial commemorating Ukrainian soldiers who died in Afghanistan in front of the Church of the Resurrection was opened in 1994. By the way, the Church itself was also called the Afghan Church. The monument was designed by Mykola Oliynyk. In 1999, in honour of the 10th anniversary of the end of confrontation, the sculptural composition was reconstructed and expanded. Modern Memorial complex in memory of the soldiers of Ukraine with an alley that leads to the monument to three soldiers who “have just pulled out the fight” was created to the design by Mykola Kyslyi. Valerii Ablazov and Maryna Protas worked on it. The sculpture stands on a pedestal with bronze-made black tulips ‘sprouted’ from the stones. At the alley’s beginning, a slab with a dedication was installed.
