The building of Kyiv City State Administration was erected at 36 Khreshchatyk Street in 1957. This was immediately included in the design project of the post-war reconstruction of the centre of the capital of the Ukrainian SSR. Earlier, the Belle Vue Hotel and one of the city’s most popular cinemas were situated there. According to the initial plan, the City Council building was to be built based on the model of Moscow’s Seven Sisters with a tower and a spire. But finally, they settled on the version of a classic 10-storey building designed by Aleksandr Vlasov, Oleksii Zavarov, and Oleksandr Malinovskyi.
Currently, meetings of Kyiv City Council are held in the building’s Session Hall, and the magnificent Column Hall is used for solemn events.
