The stela monument was erected in 1965 in Holosiivskyi Park in honour of Red Army commanders, sailors of the Dnieper Flotilla, and people’s militia fighters. In July 1941, they fought fierce battles with the Nazi and Fascist invaders in that area. The author of the monument was architect Vsevolod Suvorov. On the back side of a 5.5-metre high granite stela the following words are engraved, “Here, in the terrible hour of war for Kyiv, the heroic sons of all brotherly peoples stood to the death and became immortal in the people’s hearts.”
