Among the many cities and towns where M. Zankovetska visited, Kyiv had a special significance in her creative life and destiny. In Kyiv, the young actress experienced success for the first time, performing on the big stage of a professional theater. It was in Kyiv that she worked at Mykola Sadovskyi's First Ukrainian Stationary Theater. She spent the last years of her life in Kyiv (1918-1934).
In Kyiv, the sister of the actress Lydia Karnaukhova lived in a house on Velyka Vasylkivska Street, 121. Maria Zankovetska settled in the house in 1918 and lived there until 1934 at the invitation of Lidia Volodya Karnaukhova's son.
The museum was opened in 1960 in apartment No. 4 on the second floor, where the actress lived. It was then the first memorial actor's museum in Ukraine.
In 1980, the cultural monument was demolished. The house was rebuilt in 1989. Currently, museum exhibits and exhibition halls are located throughout the building.
The museum is located in the center of Kyiv in a square near the Palace Ukraina metro station - str. Velyka Vasylkivska, 121. The price of an entrance ticket for adults - 100 UAH, for schoolchildren - 30 UAH, for students and pensioners - 50 UAH, with a Kyiv resident card - 50 UAH.
