St. Andrew’s Church

St. Andrew’s Church

This monument of architecture and monumental painting of the 18th century of global significance is situated on the same-name hill above Andriivskyi Descent. The site for the church construction was consecrated in 1744. The church was built in 1747–1762 in the Baroque style in honour of Saint Apostle Andrew the First-Called. It is one of the two works of the famous architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in Kyiv. The building’s specific features are its location on a two-storey stylobate, rich decoration, compactness, the absence of choirs and bells. This is the world’s only completely preserved interior of a sacred building constructed to the design of Rastrelli.

It is this Church on whose steps the episodes of Chasing Two Hares were filmed. So, there is a monument to Pronia Prokopivna and Svyryd Holokhvastov nearby. Around the Church, a sightseeing platform offering an incredible view of the city has been arranged.
